IMPLANT BRIDGE

A dental bridge is a permanent appliance that is cemented onto our dentists’ dental implants. As the name implies, bridges span areas that are missing a tooth or multiple teeth and fill in larger spaces.

Fixed implant-supported bridges are a long-term solution and do not come out, unlike removable partials, which move when chewing and have to be removed every day for cleaning.

Fixed dental bridges are typically recommended when you are missing multiple teeth in a specific area of the mouth. A fixed bridge can also be used to replace a completely edentulous (toothless) arch.

Bone Density Requirements and Required
Scans for Dental Bridges

Your dentist may prescribe specific medications, typically an antibiotic, or even vitamin supplements, before implant surgery. It may also be necessary to stop taking certain medications preoperatively.

Dental bridges supported by implants require adequate bone density and volume to be successful. Our dentists will use state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging equipment to create detailed 3-D images of your jawbone to determine if you have enough bone to support a bridge. If you do not have enough bone, our dentists may recommend that you have bone grafting surgery before the bridge is installed. Bone grafting is a procedure that adds bone to the jawbone to increase its density and volume.

Anesthesia for Dental Bridges

Local anesthetic is typically used to numb the surgical area during dental bridge procedures. However, some patients may choose to be sedated or even receive general anesthesia for larger or more complex bridge procedures.

Our dentists will discuss sedation options with you early in the treatment planning process to help you make the best decision for your individual needs.

Dental Bridges implant-Supported a
Same-Day Procedure?

The answer to this question is both yes and no. Some implant-supported bridges can be completed in a single day, while others require extended healing periods. In cases where there is adequate bone volume, our dentists can place implants and fabricate a temporary bridge immediately. This is sometimes referred to as “Teeth in a Day.” However, it is more common to have a healing period of 10-12 weeks before the permanent bridge is fabricated. This is because the implants need time to osseointegrate, or fuse to the bone. The determining factors for the healing period include bone quality, the number of implants required, and cosmetic demands. If you are considering “teeth in a day,” be sure to discuss the options with our dentists and carefully consider the risks and rewards for each option.

FAQS

What is an implant bridge, and how does it work?

An implant bridge is a dental restoration that replaces multiple missing teeth by anchoring a bridge to dental implants rather than natural teeth. The implants act as secure foundations in the jawbone, supporting the bridge and filling in the gaps left by missing teeth. This solution is ideal for patients who are missing several teeth in a row.

How is an implant bridge different from a traditional bridge?

A traditional bridge relies on neighboring natural teeth for support, which often requires filing down healthy teeth. An implant bridge, on the other hand, is supported by dental implants placed in the jawbone, preserving the natural teeth and providing a more stable and durable solution. This approach also helps prevent bone loss in the jaw.

Who is a good candidate for an implant bridge?

Candidates for an implant bridge are individuals with multiple missing teeth who have enough healthy jawbone to support dental implants. If you’ve lost teeth due to injury, decay, or other issues, and are looking for a long-lasting solution, an implant bridge may be a good option. A consultation at Bellagio Dental Implant Center will help determine if this treatment is right for you.

How long does an implant bridge last?

With proper care, an implant bridge can last 10 to 20 years or longer. The implants themselves are designed to last a lifetime, and the bridge can be maintained with good oral hygiene, including regular brushing, flossing, and routine checkups at Bellagio Dental Implant Center.

What is the recovery process like after getting an implant bridge?

After the implant surgery, it generally takes 3 to 6 months for the implants to fully integrate with the jawbone (a process called osseointegration). During this healing period, you may receive a temporary bridge to maintain function and aesthetics. Once healed, the permanent bridge is attached to the implants. Most patients experience minimal discomfort during the recovery, which can be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers.
