BONE GRAFTING

Today’s ever-changing technology has greatly enhanced our abilities to improve one’s smile which is always beneficial to a person’s self-esteem and self-confidence. At Bellagio Dental Implant Center we include PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) with our bone grafting material to regenerate cells and promote healing at no extra charge. If you want to replace a tooth or are going to lose a tooth, bone grafting will help prepare you for your implant needs.

Procedures

There are times when a patient needs a dental implant for the replacement of a missing tooth, but the amount of bone present in that particular area is insufficient to provide a strong foundation for the implant. In such cases, bone grafting is performed as a pre-requisite for the implant treatment, in order to prevent implant failure. There are three different types of bone grafting procedures that we perform at the clinic:

Site Preservation: When a tooth is removed, the bone that supported it will begin to shrink over time. Placement of bone grafting materials at the time of extraction will provide the body with a “scaffold” to create its own bone in the remaining socket as it heals, and will preserve the bone volume to allow placement of an implant. This bone is ideal for implant placement 4-6 months after the grafting procedure.

Sinus Lift

If you are missing teeth in the upper jaw, you may be a candidate for a sinus lift procedure. A sinus lift is a surgical procedure that increases the amount of bone in your upper jaw so that dental implants can be placed.

At Bellagio Dental, our dentists are experienced in performing sinus lift procedures. We use the latest techniques and technology to ensure that your procedure is successful.

Ridge augmentation

Ridge augmentation is a surgical procedure that is used to add bone to the jawbone. This is often done to prepare the jawbone for dental implants.

At Bellagio Dental, our dentists are experienced in performing ridge augmentation procedures. We use the latest techniques and technology to ensure that your procedure is successful.

Ridge Expansion

Ridge expansion is a surgical procedure that is used to widen the jawbone. This is often done to prepare the jawbone for dental implants.

At Bellagio Dental, our dentists are experienced in performing ridge expansion procedures. We use the latest techniques and technology to ensure that your procedure is successful.

Socket Preservation

Socket preservation is a procedure that is performed after a tooth has been extracted. The goal of socket preservation is to keep the bone in the socket from shrinking, which can make it difficult to place dental implants in the future.

At Bellagio Dental, our dentists are experienced in performing socket preservation procedures. We use the latest techniques and technology to ensure that your socket is preserved properly.

FAQS

What is bone grafting, and why is it needed?

Bone grafting is a procedure used to rebuild or repair the bone in the jaw where it has deteriorated or is insufficient for dental implants. It is often needed when a patient has suffered bone loss due to tooth extraction, gum disease, or trauma. The bone graft creates a strong foundation for the placement of dental implants.

How long does it take for a bone graft to heal?

The healing time for a bone graft can vary depending on the size and location of the graft. Generally, it takes about 4 to 6 months for the graft to fully integrate with the existing bone. After this healing period, the site will be ready for dental implant placement or other dental procedures.

Is the bone grafting procedure painful?

Bone grafting is typically performed under local anesthesia, so you won’t feel any pain during the procedure. After the surgery, you may experience some mild discomfort or swelling, which can be managed with over-the-counter pain medications. Most patients recover quickly with minimal discomfort.

Where does the bone for grafting come from?

The bone used for grafting can come from different sources. It may be your own bone (autograft), donor bone (allograft), synthetic materials, or animal-derived bone (xenograft). During your consultation at Bellagio Dental Implant Center, we will determine the best type of bone graft material for your specific needs and ensure a successful outcome.

What happens if I don’t get a bone graft before dental implants?

If you have significant bone loss and do not undergo a bone grafting procedure, there may not be enough bone to securely place dental implants. This can lead to implant failure or other complications. A bone graft helps ensure a strong foundation for implants, increasing their success rate and longevity.
